How were you first exposed to improvised comedy? Was it through a TV show such as Whose Line? Did you go to a live improv show? Share your experiences here.

I was first introduced to improv by going to an open house at the high school where I would later go. They had students from the drama class doing improv, and it looked like so much fun! This was before the existence of Whose Line (the American Whose Line with which North American audiences would be familiar.)

My first proper experience with improv was watching the UK version of Whose Line. I had heard of "theatre sports" before but never really seen or participated in them. I discovered the UK WL by accident in the mid 90s. I had just had cable hooked up (which was all very new in the mid 90s in Australia) and saw a listing for "Whose Line Is It Anyway". I tuned in, thinking it would be a show of bloopers, that sort of thing. It was much better than bloopers! I've been hooked ever since.

I first got interested in improv because of Whose Line. I saw a related video on YouTube. It was the Richard Simmons Living Scenery. I got hooked from there Very Happy

I first got into it via the semi-improv panel show Mock the Week, I saw the 2nd series of that and thought it was hilarious, especially the final game which is kind of Scenes From A Hat/World's Worst combined. Then I looked up Mock the Week clips on Youtube, and saw everyone saying how Whose Line was better, so I watched some clips and I was hooked on improv after that Smile

I was first exposed to improv by WTATA actually, and have loved it ever since.

Wait, so you became a fan of Whose Line and improv by joining a Whose Line fan forum before you were a fan of the show or improv Confused *mind explodes*

Oh, haha, sorry, typo. I meant to say WLLIA, not WTATA.

I saw my first [American] Whose Line episode when I was really, REALLY young. At the time, I couldn't remember much, all I knew is that I laughed hard. Years later when I was 15, I started randomly skimming though SFAH and Props clips, and then decided to watch the episodes for real. By the time I was 17, I was hooked. Then it led to Green Screen Show, then the original UK Whose Line, then Improv-A-Ganza, and so on.

Watching YouTube clips of Whose Line with my brother and cousin really got me into improv, but I had seen shows such as HIGNFY and MTW before. I don't consider them to be the same kind of improv as Whose Line though.

Whose Line came on ABC Family, which also showed Full House, and that was my obsession at the time. (Shut up I was 9!) I remember watching an episode with my dad and him laughing hysterically at a game of Helping Hands. Years later I saw the Richard Simmons episode online and loved it, but I didn't really become obsessed until IAG.

I got started with the UK version, then the US version. I went to some improv shows later on after whose line ended, and finally saw some of the guys on the Whose Live tour last year.

I had just come back home after sitting a prelim at school and plonked myself down on the sofa and switched the telly on. I'd found Britline, but thought it was pretty rubbish to be honest, but then I just kept on watching it and it grew on me until the point that I was eagerly waiting for school to finish so I could go home and watch it on Dave. I then found the US version a few weeks later and then the obsession really began. Razz

I first got into improv through Whose Line US. I can't remember exactly when, but it was a long time ago. School got in the way and I stopped watching much television. One day I was looking through the history and found my sister had been watching movie bloopers. Bloopers lead me to Whose Line bloopers, and I immediately remembered how much fun I had watching the show. After seeing all the US episodes of Whose Line, I went on and watched the UK episodes and Green Screen. I was very happy to have new improv on TV when we had Improv-a-ganza. Since watching the shows, I've seen Whose Live Anyway twice, and I'll see Colin and Brad next week for the first time. I really love the magic of the live shows.

In the 90's Finnish TV showed a recording of a Finnish improv group doing a series of gigs. I watched it and was amazed.

When I went to university, I joined an improv group and ended up running it for four years. I sought WLIIA and related shows along the way to get influences. Improv has remained as a hobby; watching, doing and teaching.

It'd be cool to have improv as a hobby! I'm bad at performing it, but I do like to watch improv shows, both live and videotaped.

One boring evening, I was watching TV and changed the channel to Dave just out of curiosity only to find Whose Line UK was on. I've been hooked ever since.
