“Whose Line is it Anyway?” Returning for New Season; Report: Aisha Tyler Named Host

During the launch of all the improv comedy shows that have come over the past few years, people constantly say the same thing: why won’t they just bring back Whose Line is it Anyway?. Good news: they are. Colin Mochrie today announced the previously-discussed rumors that Warner Bros. is bringing back the iconic improv comedy show for a new season.

Well, Colin Mochrie did post that Whose Line is returning on Twitter, but his details were sparse.

Edit: Ah, oops, that is referenced in the article.

Since basically Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie are talking about this, I think it is pretty much confirmed.

That's wonderful news. It's about time they listen to their fans... after all there are a zillion of them who still watch all the reruns and want Whose Line back.

And that article says taping for the is going to be in April, which is why the Louisiana show got bumped up a week. Emailed the theatre's manager and Colin and Brad's agent and they both confirmed the change in date due to them taping a new TV series beginning April 15. Yippie!!

Cool. Disappointed Wayne's gonna be in this though. I always liked the idea of having two or less permanent fixtures, with the rest rotating.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now.

I think you are reading too much into too little information. They are also saying that Greg is going to be in it; so what, is it just going to be those four?

We don't even know if Ryan or Colin are going to be permanent. When they say 'the old cast', they just mean they are returning to do the show - which is awesome - but not how exactly it is going to be implemented.

Because my biggest worry is; how much of the original Whose Line Is It Anyway? format are they going to maintain? The four spin-offs (I count Drew Carey's Green Screen Show, Fast and Loose, Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza and Trust Us with Your Life as spin-offs) all maintained a different format, some more than others.

I kind of want Drew Carey to remain as the host, and for sure want Ryan and Colin to be regulars, along with Chip, Jeff, Greg and Wayne.

I honestly can live without Drew Carey as a host. Look at the great job Clive Anderson did. They were different hosts, but I don't mind a bit of change, as it can work.

But Drew Carey was never the best improv artist of the lot (hence why he was host), but he always seemed a bit full of himself. Prefixing show titles with 'Drew Carey's' discomforts me in a way.

A lack of Drew Carey might provide more focus to the performers, but then again, I have no idea what kind of host Aisha Tyler is gonna be. It's going to be exciting to see what's coming next.

I would be very surprised if Drew Carey doesn't make an appearance as a performer though.

I thought one of the articles said it'd be Ryan, Colin, and Wayne with a fourth guest. It makes sense to assume that means it'll be similiar to the Drew Carey-helmed series in that aspect.

Perhaps. But he might disapprove of it, considering how he is not involved (unless he is).

I only saw articles mention that Ryan, Colin and Wayne would return, but not whether any of them would be permanent, but I think it is safe to assume those three would at the very least be prominent.

I did not see any article discussing a 'fourth guest' though, I only saw one mentioning Greg.

It is written in Deadline article: "Returning are Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie, who starred on the ABC series. The trio, along with a special guest each episode".

At least that's how I interpreted it.
But it's a shame, because I'd love to see Greg-Jeff-Colin-Ryan line-up.

Well, that settles that I guess. I did not see the Deadline article

I concur, I was hoping it to be more nuanced. That's why I love watching the old British episodes, where there would be a completely new line up each week. It's not that I don't like Ryan and Colin as permanent performers on the American version (and the later series of the British), but I do also like a bit of change of scenery.

I suppose that depends on their interpretation of episodes. If they mean 10 recording sessions, it could easily become 20+ episodes. But 10 episodes are a bit few for a programme like this.

The CW is hosting it and not ABC Family? What the heck is the CW? They aren't talking about me, are they? Course not, I would have ordered 10^10 episodes.

I need to know so I can add that channel to my cable.

I'd love to see the trio again but I do like to see a variety of characters there.

As far as I know, the CW is one of the major US TV networks. I live in Ontario, but I get the CW from Detroit on my basic cable channels. It's the network that airs Supernatural, among other things. Hopefully that helps.

CW appears to be a regular non-basic-cable channel, if I understand it's wikipedia article correctly. I always thought it was basic cable, for some reason. CW was a result of the merger between WB and UPN, from a few years back. For those who might remember, it was WB that originally aired Drew Carey's Green Screen Show.

Yeah! I'm hoping it'll be as interesting as the Great Dave Influx of 2009! (Or whenever it was. I was part of the FiveUS Invasion some years earlier...)
